Mountaineering & hiking in Slovenia: bucket list for 2018

1. ROBANOV KOT LANDSCAPE PARK

Robanov kot valley, a true hidden jewel of Slovenia, is squeezed under the summits of  Kamnik-Savinja Alps. Due to its outstanding natural beauty, Robanov kot was proclaimed a landscape park. The path starts at the Govc-Vršnik tourist farm and opens up a panorama of the Roban meadow sustaining grazing cows during the season. The trail continues through the forest towards seasonally-operational mountain dairy, where they will be more than glad to serve you a healthy portion of soured milk or a delicious home-cooked snack.

2. MOUNT RADUHA (2062 m) and SNEŽNA JAMA CAVE

If you like cave exploring and would like to enjoy hiking in Slovenia at the same time, than this trip is a perfect idea! From the Koča na Loki mountain hut the signs will lead you to the peak that offers breathtaking vistas on the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and the Savinja Valley. If you take another 2 hours of your time, combine your mountain trip with the Snežna jama Cave visiting. Do not forget warm clothes, the temperatures in the cave are 0-4 degrees Celsius.

3 .OKREŠELJ, AN HOUR WALK ABOVE THE SCENIC LOGAR VALLEY

Starting at Landscape park Logarska dolina (Logar Valley), one of the most beautiful alpine valleys in Europe, passing the Rinka waterfall and having a drink at Orlovo gnezdo bar (eagle nest). You will be impressed by the scenic ambient of surrounding summits of Kamnik-Savinja Alps. If you want to enjoy the greenest corners, than the Logar Valley is a perfect choice for hiking in Slovenia.

4. CROSSING THE KAMNIK-SAVINJA ALPS

Experienced guides may lead you to the scenic world of Kamnik-Savinja Alps, above 2000 m. Multi-days trekking start at Logar valley (Logarska dolina) and continue along Okrešelj, Turski Zleb, Turska gora, Brana and end at Kamnik Saddle. After overnight at the Kamnik Saddle hut you will continue in the direction of the mountain Planjava, passing the Babe Ridge and the pass Skarje, than start descending to the Klemenca Jama and finishing the trip in Logarska Valley.

5. KRNSKO JEZERO LAKE IN THE JULIAN ALPS

Very popular hiking route in the heart of Julian Alps with the scenic lake and colorful alpine flora. There are more than 40 different kinds of flora and around 24 different fauna species in the lake. In the surroundings you will find a smaller Duplje lake and the mountain pasture where cheese and homemade cottage is sold. The remains of the WW1 are seen in all the are of Krn mountain range.

6. KOROŠICA, THE MOUNTAIN FOOTBALL PLAYGROUND

Korošica is the football playground in the mountains.  Every year different regional football clubs meet and play for a Kocbek football Cup on the alpine plateau, which is the highest football playground in Slovenia. Actually is a lot more than just that! You will be surprised by the pleasant hiking path that leads to the Korošica mountain hut (Kocbekov dom na Korošici), which is also agood starting point for the peaks around. The spirit of the alpine world will reconnect you with the unspoiled nature, so take your time and pamper yourself with the fresh air.

7. HIKING IN SLOVENIA ABOVE 2500 m: MT MANGART (2679 m)

The highest alpine road in Slovenia ends at more than 2000 m, at the Mt Mangart saddle. From there the visitors may admire the Belopeška jezera lakes or enjoy the vegetable soup in the Koča na Mangartskem sedlu mountain hut. The mountaineers who would like to enjoy the great vistas on the Julian Alps continue on the marked trail to Mt Mangart (2679 m).

8. GOLTE LANDSCAPE PARK AND SMREKOVEC, THE ONLY SLOVENIAN EX-VOLCANO

The cable car arrives at the Golte Hiking and Skiing resort, 1,410m above sea level. You will enjoy splendid views over Savinja and Šalek valley wheater choosing Golte hiking trail or heading  to the protected areas of Smrekovec, the only volcanic highland ridge in Slovenia protected by the Natura 2000. Botanical paradise that is a home of numerous rare animals is a popular spot for hiking in Slovenia.
